The recent announcement from DECC provides some clarity about the way
forward for the FIT scheme. There are some key points to note and I
summarise those:
• The PV FIT starting rate for under 4kWp systems from April 1st 2012 will be 21p per kWh, subject to an inflation linked rise.
• Residential PV installs from April 1st must be to properties with an
existing or new Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) grade D. An initial
12 month grace to achieve this level will be granted but it is a
condition to qualify for the full FIT rate. Worth noting: there are
about 8000 Domestic Energy Assessors in the UK typically providing these
for a fee of around £60.00 - £100.00. Ball Contractors can arrange for
an EPC to be carried out at your home.
• July 1st will see a further
tariff reduction to between 16.5p and 13.9p per kWh. DECC will
determine the actual rate on the level & capacity of PV
installations deployed in March & April and will announce the rate
giving 2 months’ notice. DECC’s intention has been for domestic PV
installations to return around 4.5% on investment.
• The Government
have reaffirmed their commitment to the Green Deal launch in October
2012, we expect further details as they take shape.
The TSB launched an initiative to Retrofit UK social housing stock in order to meet future targets in reduction of CO2 emissions and energy use. The competition 'Retrofit for the future’, looked for at least 50 demonstrator whole house solutions to improve the performance of the entire property with a goal to make deep cuts in carbon emissions. B Ball Contractors Ltd worked with CEN and Ashford Borough Council in winning the competition and to a successful conclusion.
